Pt 2 | Why Democracy Was Designed to Restrain Power, What Marxism Lacks in a Free Society

Before You Read:

In Part 1, I explained how Marxist thinking works, not as a slogan, but as a pattern that steadily concentrates power into the hands of government.

Part 2 looks at the opposite idea. America was built on the belief that power is dangerous when it concentrates, and that government must be restrained in a free society.

Our Democratic system was designed to protect people from government overreach and concentrated power. The Founders didn’t trust government, and that was the point.

Here’s the Founders’ logic that often gets lost in modern conversations:

  1. The people who founded this country didn’t believe government was the solution to every problem. They believed government was necessary but dangerous and needed restraints.
  2. They had lived under the centralized authority of Great Britain. They had seen what happens when power stacks up at the top. So, they designed a system that intentionally:
    • Limited government
    • Divided power
    • Protected private ownership
    • Guaranteed speech, religion, and due process
    • Made government answer to the people, not the other way around

That wasn’t cynicism, that was wisdom earned the hard way. They understood a basic truth that power doesn’t corrupt overnight; it accumulates quietly.

Pt 2 _ Why Democracy Was Designed to Restrain Power, What Marxism Lacks in a Free Society - 1

Democracy Isn’t “Government Control”, It’s “Government Constraint”

This is where confusion sets in. People hear the word democracy and think it means: “Government doing more.” That’s backwards. A “constitutional” democracy means:

  • Government has boundaries
  • Authority is divided to allow for debate and change
  • Rights already exist before government, not because of it
  • Citizens retain independence through ownership, speech, and choice

Marxist systems flip that upside down. They say:

  • Rights come from the state
  • Property belongs to the collective
  • Freedom exists only if the government allows it

That’s not democracy, and it surely eliminates personal freedom. In short, Marxism encourages dependency, the very opposite of freedom.

Why Private Ownership Actually Matters

Private ownership isn’t just about money or real estate. It’s about independence. When you own something, it’s:

  • Your home
  • Your business
  • Your land
  • Your labor

You have financial leverage. You have choices and most of all, you have protection from centralized government control.

Pt 2 _ Why Democracy Was Designed to Restrain Power, What Marxism Lacks in a Free Society - 3

When Ownership Disappears, So Does Independence

That’s why Marxist systems always target property first, not last.  We are already seeing proposals in major cities that openly call for replacing private home ownership with communal living models

A population That Owns Nothing Eventually Questions Nothing

Rights Do Not Come from Government and Never Did

This may be the most important point in this entire discussion. In America, rights were understood as inherent, granted by GOD, nature, or moral law, NOT by politicians.

That means:

  • Speech isn’t a privilege
  • Worship isn’t conditional
  • Self-defense isn’t optional
  • Due process isn’t negotiable
Pt 2 _ Why Democracy Was Designed to Restrain Power, What Marxism Lacks in a Free Society - 4

Government was created to protect those rights, not redefine them. Once a society accepts that rights come from government, it has already surrendered the argument.  The reality is: what government gives, government can take back, usually with a smile first, and force later.

Why “Quick Fixes” Always Cost More Later

I get it, people are hurting. They don’t want lectures about philosophy while they’re struggling to pay for groceries, insurance, rent, or gas. But history keeps delivering the same lesson:

  • A “quick fix” that expands centralized power comes with a long-term bill
  • Debt relief becomes debt dependency
  • Price controls become shortages
  • Speech protection becomes censorship
  • Safety becomes surveillance

The relief briefly feels good but the consequences last generations.

So, What Can Ordinary Citizens Actually Do?

This is where Part 2 gets practical. We don’t need slogans, yelling or panic….just responsibility.

  1. Learn to recognize language games

When you hear words like free, equity, safety, misinformation, collective good, ask yourself…..what power is being transferred, to whom and at what price?

  1. Protect local control

Support strong families, strong communities, and keep local decision making out of government control. A Democratic Republic insures citizen involvement.  Remember, members of congress represent the districts that voted to secure their interests, not those of the representatives or the government.

Centralized systems hate decentralization, because it limits their control.

  1. Defend private ownership

Property isn’t greed, it’s part of YOUR legacy.  Keep it, sell it, share it, or use it as collateral. It’s your protection against centralized takeover.

  1. Teach kids how to think, not what to think

The most significant principles of Marxism are “communal property” and “taking over education.” We must always teach our children HOW to think, not WHAT to think. Parents must hold schools accountable to educate NOT indoctrinate.  Curiosity beats indoctrination every time.

  1. Speak up early and calmly

History clearly shows that once a society fully commits to centralized ideological control, peaceful exit becomes nearly impossible.  Silence doesn’t preserve peace, it just delays the reckoning.

This Isn’t About Fear, It’s About Responsibility

Let me be clear. This isn’t about hating government; it’s about limiting it. It’s not about left or right;
it’s about freedom versus control.  It’s not about panic; it’s about understanding what’s at stake before the choices disappear.

Because freedom doesn’t collapse in one loud moment, it fades when people stop understanding how it works and stop defending it.

Final Thoughts

Freedom isn’t self-sustaining:

  • Freedom is a constant struggle. It requires effort.
  • Freedom is about choice. It’s the power to decide, to act and say no.
  • Freedom is about responsibility. With freedom comes the duty.
  • Freedom is about individuality. It’s about being true to oneself and living authentically.
  • Freedom is not the absence of commitments. It’s the ability to choose.

Marxism and Democracy both speak the language of equality, but only one trusts the individual more than the state. History shows that the difference matters. Choose wisely!
